What did I want to write about? Star Wars! Oh yes, just because the movies are over, and the next much ANTICIPATED game is far away, doesn't mean I'm done with Star Wars. The books still hold much sway over me, even though I've read less of Star Wars and more other Fiction (branching out =O omg!) lately. Today I just finished a book and was surprised at how much it connected to me. Spoilers for those fellow Star Wars fans...oh wait, there are none. Never mind!
So before I start, for you woefully ignorant fools out there, I'll just introduce the two main characters that are involved in my story. Luke Skywalker eventually marries this woman called Mara Jade, and Leia and Han have twins, one boy called Jacen. Luke, Han and Leia are very old, and Jacen is now like 32. There's some interesting plot going on, but I don't suppose anyone really wants to hear about it. Anyway, (here's the spoiler for you imaginary fellow fans) in the end of my book, Jacen for plot-related reasons, kills Mara Jade, who in case you couldn't follow the family tree, is his aunt.
And the thing is, the revelation was very shocking. I felt sadness when she dies, shock for when Jacen kills her (with a poison dart btw), grief for Luke, sympathies for the Skywalker and Solo family in general. It wasn't touching-making-me-cry-touching, but I felt the emotions run through me. And when I thought about it, the more I realize how deeply connected I am to the characters in the other galaxy.
The thing is, I've been following these characters all through their made-up lives. Luke, from 16 years old to what I assume is like 80 years old now, from his rise from farm boy to Grand Jedi Master (yes, over-ruler of all Jedi's). Jacen's birth, to Young Jedi Knight series detailing adventures of his young teenage life, he's growing into maturity (which is really interesting, particular in one book called Traitor) and his Jedi powers. How Mara Jade started off as the Emperor's Hand (servant) to hating Luke Skywalker, to loving him, to marrying him..you get the picture.
It's just amazing to think that I've followed them through their lives. I mean, I know they're 'scripted', but the way it is scripted just creates...a person that I know, like I would in real life. I know the way they would act, think...it's just amazing to me that authors can do that. And Star Wars is unique to me in this way, because no series has spanned over such a long time. Since I was in grade 2, I have followed the great Star Wars saga..and it continues on.
It's just something that I've lived with my whole life, the experience of reading these stories..I find it...

epic.
Anyway, I'm sure I've convinced those who did not already think of me as a Star Wars freak, as one now. Hopefully I've made some valid points in my thoughts. Off to study maths now!
teohsulfate,
